Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate fracture resistance of Zirconia and fiber glass pediatric crowns with thermal aging in comparison to a control group without thermal aging.Materials and Methods:Twenty-eight esthetic crowns for upper right D size 5 from two manufacturers were divided into(14 Kids-e®-crowns and Figaro® crowns) and further divided into subgroups with and without thermal aging. All the samples were subjected to fracture resistance test using a universal testing machine after the samples were cemented and mounted onto negative replicas. Results:Assessment of the overall difference was tested using repeated measure analysis of variance. Repeated measure ANOVA revealed that the fracture resistance of Zirconia was highly significantly different with Figaro without thermal aging as shown by the t-test for independent samples. Moreover, a highly significant difference between Zirconia and Figaro with thermal aging.Conclusion: Assessment of the fracture resistance of the specimens revealed thatFigaro® crowns have higher fracture resistance than Kids-e®-crowns Zirconia crowns. This difference was documented either with or without thermal aging.
